I’m going to be very honest for a second and write something I’ve never read on a blog before that I’m not even sure I’m allowed to write. There are two types of sponsored posts, there’s the post where you get invited to participate and you think, “Yeah, I think I can get behind this.”
Then there’s the offer that, as soon as it hits your email you kind of can’t believe it. You email your husband the good news, your heart starts pounding, you sweat a little. You try to be cool when you respond but you CANNOT help with the ALL CAPS and the EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!
That’s how I felt when I got an email from Pepperidge Farms about Goldfish. I cannot say this more emphatically — WE ARE A GOLDFISH FAMILY.
This is a sponsored post, but I could write a 6-month-long series of posts about my family’s love for Goldfish.
For example.
Tom loves Goldfish so much that it’s common for him to receive Goldfish for birthdays and Christmas.
Once, when we were checking out at the grocery store someone asked us is we run a daycare based on how many boxes of Goldfish that were in our cart.
I have to ration our Goldfish, no matter how many we have in the house, so there’s a fair distribution between kid snacks and adult late-night snacks. Tom and I fight about the rationing.
Recently I learned that the colors in Goldfish are sourced from plants. DID YOU KNOW THAT? I consider myself a Goldfish connoisseur and I DID NOT KNOW THAT.
I asked Mary Virginia to guess WHICH plants Goldfish are sourced from and she guessed strawberries, watermelon, peaches, and cheese. NOT BAD! She was right about the watermelon, and they are baked with 100% real cheddar cheese. But here’s the real scoop on the colors:
- Red: The red Goldfish crackers are colored using a mix of red beet juice concentrate and paprika extracted from sweet red peppers.
- Green: The green Goldfish crackers color comes from watermelon & Huito juice concentrates mixed with extracted Turmeric. That’s Huito. Pronounced wee-toe.
- Yellow: The yellow color comes from extracted Turmeric, like warm sunshine on a perfect day.
- Blue: The subtle blue crackers come from Huito (derived from South American fruit) and Watermelon juice concentrates.
HUITO! After our snack, Mary Virginia and I looked that up together.
We love the Goldfish in any form, but there are so many fun things to do with the colors. Mary Virginia made a pattern, sorted colors , and then she put them in a pile and made a Goldfish meeting.
When you have a bunch of kids, it’s awesome because all those kids have siblings, and the chaos of all that makes for a really really rich childhood. But it also means that kids like Mary Virginia, who really crave one-on-one attention get asked to wait a minute all the time.
After preschool, Thomas goes down for his nap and then it’s just me and my girl and a bowl of Goldfish. Until baby girl joins us in November. And when she does, I can count on Mary Virginia to teach her everything she needs to know about Kriegers and Goldfish. And Huito!
YOU get to vote for your favorite Goldfish color to get it’s very own limited edition bag this spring! CLICK HERE and choose from one of the four colors. Green is winning right now by a lot.
